A speaker from the International Social Services and or other agencies will give a short talk regarding the organisations involvement in the adoption process but this is essentially an informal meeting where the emphasis is on supporting, sharing and getting to know each other.

UPDATED DETAILS (added 9th March 2012)

Following on from Julia Feast’s recent email: it’s probably worth explaining that BAAF is a charity with limited resources. They are kindly giving us the use of their meeting room in April free of charge, but do not have the funds to cover food and refreshments. Catering options are therefore (1) request food when you confirm your attendance with Debbie or (2) bring a packed lunch. Those who order food will be required to pay in cash on signing into the meet up. Sorry this sounds formal and authoritarian, but we don’t want BAAF to end up out of pocket by ordering food which isn’t then paid for. Food will only be ordered for those who request it when confirming their attendance.

The great news is that some of our American sisters are coming over especially for our April gathering. Some of you may have had contact with Kim (Kimberley) Rogers as she runs the Fanling website; here’s your chance to meet Kim and get to know her better. Amanda and Rebecca Baden, together with Kim, were part of the American ‘side’ of the committee that organised the HK worldwide reunion in 2010. Amanda and Rebecca were both in Po Leung Kuk.

Although April is very much about socialising and getting to know each other, we are conscious that there will be new people who haven’t been to any of these gatherings before. In order to help people feel at ease, we have drafted a programme which will include the short presentation from CFAB (formerly International Social Services), plus a couple of ice breaker games. We have left lots of time for questions and discussion, so don’t worry that it all sounds really formal. Nobody will be required to sing or tap dance – although I’m sure nobody will stop you if you insist! The programme will be posted in due course.

For anyone who hasn’t made travel arrangements yet: we plan to kick off the gathering at 12 midday, but registration will start at 11am. We have to vacate BAAF’s offices at 3pm. As you will be aware from Julia’s email, Debbie is in the process of sorting out a place for us to meet and eat in the early evening. Again, you will need to tell Debbie whether or not you wish to come along to the evening meal when you confirm your attendance.

The reunion dates are set and our venue is all booked (enabling adoptees/orphans from different orphanges/backgrounds to also have mini-reunions within the same event), and while we are starting to surge forward with the planning, adoptees from around the globe are linking with each other, organising themselves in their local community/country to see what we can do in spreading the word in order to help create what we believe would be an amazing experience.
